As women and a growing number of men of color, what's your greatest skin care challenge? Whether it's dark spots, uneven skin tone, dark circles, puffiness under your eyes or hair that won't grow, you'll find a product that can possibly become the solution to your challenge.
Moisturizers and ingredients that hydrate your skin will always be your best friend, for your face, body and hair. So look for products with nourishing and nurturing ingredients. Shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter and jojoba oils are a few of the ingredients to keep on your list.
We've got new additions to our store for you. Essential oils have been known to help calm and soothe skin and scalp irritations. Although you'll find a sample kit on the hair category page, you can use them for any of your skin and hair care needs.
The hair care sample kit has been given an upgrade. We've increased the size of the container on the shampoo and conditioners and added a hair butter sample to the mix.
Although there's beauty in your blackness, your skin is sensitive and needs protection from the sun just like everyone else. So if you know you're challenged by sunburn, add a few drops of Lavender essential oil to Jojoba and Grapeseed Oil and create a nice body oil for yourself. It will bring comfort and beauty back to your skin.
We're listening to you and your suggestions, so keep an eye on the category pages and your emails for updates.

Your skin and hair go through a lot of ups and downs on a daily basis. Covid on the other hand, seems to add to the stress and anxiety. From conversations with you, some of your biggest challenges were in working through dehydration. With any illness, dehydration plays a role in your health and well-being. Covid is no different.
For those of you having battled it first hand, there were all sort of emotions involved. First being blindsided by the fact that you got covid. Yes, you'd taken all the safety precautions and still, somehow, ended up with it. Hard pill to swallow, right?
Now what? The stories you've shared could be great material for any standup comedian. Things like:
Guess what? Everyone had been vaccinated!
Yes, this will be a two prong approach to getting your skin and hair back to its radiant glow. Covid can zap the wind out of you. Your skin or hair isn't typically top of mind, Your health is.
In the process of getting your health and well-being together, your hair and skin benefit from your new health habits. You drink more water, which is a key component to health. You eat more green foods, increase your intake of herbs and vitamins and you get more rest.
These are all good habits to acquire. They will certainly pay off in the long run. Your new found habits of eating properly and increasing your water intake, was in essence, cleansing you out internally.
You were putting better foods in, than on a typical fast paced day. That warm shower took all the energy you could muster up, before you had to lay back down.
Your next energy burst, had you prepping a pitcher of green drinks or salad portions for the day.
You notice your skin has lost that crusty, gray, stressed out appearance. That's because, as best you could, you ate better foods.
Your eating habits gave you better skin from within. Therefore, your skin care regimen performed better.
You gained enough energy to shower and actually get back into at least cleansing and moisturizing your face. A big improvement that made you feel as if you were returning to an old, yet new self.
Use what you've learned through your ordeal, as the patient or caregiver. It will help you help someone else, in the long run.
As you began to share your stories, I asked if you felt your skin was better or worse after your covid encounter. It's about 50/50 at this point.
Many of you shared that you went through this with a support system in place. You lived alone, yet you had someone checking on you daily, multiple times a day. Others of you were confined to your bedroom while family members placed trays of nourishing foods outside your door.
In the scheme of things, you're part of a very blessed group of individuals that were able to share your experience. Not everyone ends up in a hospital. A lot of you expressed you didn't want to go to a hospital because of the news reports if you could help it.
Everyone handles things differently. I'm glad to hear from all of you and pray that you continue to find your way to health and wellness in a covid driven world.
That's it for this week. As always …
