CBD, CBG ... Just when you thought you had a handle on CBD, here comes CBG.
What!?
Yeah
CBG is the new kid on the block in the world of cannabinoids. It’s another part of the cannabis plant that’s being studied for its medicinal properties. It’s still too early to tell, yet CBG has the potential to be the biggest of them all in the game of cannabis.
CBG stands for cannabigerol. Another one that’s a tongue twister names when it comes to pronunciation. CBG is being praised for it ability to stimulate receptors in your body for pain, inflammation and heat sensitization. Wait! I though CBD did those same things.
Like its counterpart CBD, CBG does not get you high when used. Recently though, researchers discovered that CBGa can produce isolated CBG. This makes it even more valuable. It could be more effective for pain relief and muscle relaxation without causing you to get high.
Wait. Back up. In natural conditions, cannabis plants initially produce CBGa. When exposed to sunlight, the enzymes within the plant break the acid down into three lines THCa, CBDa or CBCa
After the plant is harvested and processed, you get THC and CBD isolates. Are we all getting this? For some of us, like me, it’s going to take a few classes and a lot of studying to get a handle on an old herb used in the new space of wellness.
What Makes CBG Different From CBD?
CBD and CBG have inflammatory properties, which is great when you’re dealing with skin conditions and chronic pain. According to Jeff Heeren, CEO of Tanasi, a company specializing in hemp derived cannabinoids extracts: "CBG’s main difference is that it is a natural antibacterial agent."
What does that mean in plain english? CBG isolates, with further trials, can join traditional Western medicines like penicillin in treating bacterial infections like strep throat. Go figure!
What are the Basic Differences in CBD, CBG and THC?
We’ll keep studying and bringing you what we learn. Until then, gather as much information as you can and become your own resource of knowledge. We'll compare notes. Who knows, you might learn that you've known this for years, you just didn't share it because cannabis was illegal and you weren't going to put yourself on front street.
That’s it for this week. As always …
