What's your greatest skin care challenge?
As women and a growing number of men of color, what's your greatest skin care challenge? Whether it's dark spots, uneven skin tone, dark circles, puffiness under your eyes or hair that won't grow, you'll find a product that can possibly become the solution to your challenge.
Moisturizers and ingredients that hydrate your skin will always be your best friend, for your face, body and hair. So look for products with nourishing and nurturing ingredients. Shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter and jojoba oils are a few of the ingredients to keep on your list.
We've got new additions to our store for you. Essential oils have been known to help calm and soothe skin and scalp irritations. Although you'll find a sample kit on the hair category page, you can use them for any of your skin and hair care needs.
The hair care sample kit has been given an upgrade. We've increased the size of the container on the shampoo and conditioners and added a hair butter sample to the mix.
Although there's beauty in your blackness, your skin is sensitive and needs protection from the sun just like everyone else. So if you know you're challenged by sunburn, add a few drops of Lavender essential oil to Jojoba and Grapeseed Oil and create a nice body oil for yourself. It will bring comfort and beauty back to your skin.

Suddenly CBD is Everywhere, Can It Make a Great Meal?
CBD recipes are everywhere my dark skinned beauties! From bath balms to gummies, it has made its presence known to the world. It’s not the gummies or the bath balms that have made the biggest entrance, it’s the food recipes and meals.
Healthy Meals With CBD
More than ever, as women of color, you’re taking your health into your own hands. You’ve decided to eat better prepared meals, drink more water, exercise and go to sleep. Not all of you have embraced CBD, nor will you. For those of you that have ventured into this alternative modality for inflammation and pain relief, you know better than anyone how it works.
From plant based meals, to green drinks and deserts, CBD is finding its way into home kitchens and restaurants. Yeah, but …
What About Dosage?
As with any recipe you want to watch the quantity you add to your mix. Most manufacturers will provide information on dosing of their oil and tinctures. If you decide you’re going to cook with CBD, you might want to adhere to what they provide. Who knows the concentration better than the manufacturer.
Even with information from the manufacturer, your kitchen becomes a zone of trial and error. Yep, just like when you were learning to cook with your Mom or Nana. Sometimes your dish was great, other times it was awful. That’ the nature of playing around in the kitchen. However, done often enough and you eventually get it right. The key is remembering it’s easier to add to than subtract from any recipe.
Ease into CBD when preparing your meals and see how your body responds. You might want to add it to the frosting of your cake as appose to the batter itself. Or start with just a green drink and see how you feel.
CBD Recipes
There are plenty of books to be found with recipes on Amazon.com or by visiting your local Barnes and Nobel bookstore. If you're looking for a way to have beauty and wellness with CBD from within you can find everything from books on bath and body products, to candy and deserts, to cocktails.
So as not to leave you hanging, here’s a recipe from Charlotte Kjaer, The Canna Kitchen, Brighton, UK
Hemp and Carrot Top CBD Pesto With Pasta
Ingredients:
1 bunch carrot tops
1 bunch fresh basil, a few leaves reserved for garnish
2 garlic cloves
1 Tbsp apple cider vinegar
2 Tbsp hemp hearts
1/2 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 to 6 drops CBD oil(refer to manufacturer’s instructions for exact recommended dosage)
1 lb tagliatelle or other pasta of your choice
2 Tbsp nutritional yeast
Salt to taste
Halved cherry tomatoes and toasted pine nuts for garnish (optional)
Directions:
Serves 4
You get to use the carrot tops, which are loaded with nutrients. Hemp seeds add a nutty flavor and offer a complete source of protein and omega fatty acids.
That's it for this week. As always ...
